Rainmaker Communications Produces Documentary Film on the Founders of Silicon Valley Venture Capital

Rainmaker Partner Molly Davis is working with the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC) to produce a documentary film that tells the story of the creation of an industry that has become the single greatest engine of innovation and economic growth in the 20th century. It is told by the visionary risk-takers who dared to make it happen....Tom Perkins, Don Valentine, Arthur Rock, Bill Draper, Pitch Johnson, Dick Kramlich, Reid Dennis, Bill Edwards and others.

These individuals had the brains, guts and inclination to help start and grow world-class companies. They fostered a one-of-a-kind innovation culture that encouraged extraordinary risk and made possible unprecedented rewards. Yet there isn't a single documentary film on this subject. And given our current economic climate, much can be learned from these founders of venture capital.

Molly Davis and her co-executive producer, Paul Holland (WAVC board member and Foundation Capital partner), have selected an exceptional creative team-Geller/Goldfine Productions is an Emmy Award-winning creator of multi-character documentaries. The team's work has screened theatrically around the world, appeared on dozens of television programs, and is used in hundreds of universities. Arguably the most talented and successful documentary team in the Bay Area, Geller Goldfine Productions has earned a reputation for incredible storytelling and superior production value. Simply put, there is no better team to help us capture this important slice of our history.

To date, we have shot nearly all the venture capitalists for the film. And from a funding perspective, we've secured sponsorships from SVB Financial Group, Cooley Godward Kronish, JMP Securities, Paul Capital, HRJ Capital and WAVC. Our next step is to film some of the early entrepreneurs from companies like Apple, Cisco, Intel, Genentech and others. These case studies will help round out our story and expand on the priceless insights we've gathered.

The film is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2010.
